Our Mission
Our mission is simple. We want everyone to have fun while learning, and we hope to inform the workforce of the future about opportunities in STEM, marketing, and business.
The manufacturing, information, technology and engineering fields are in high demand all over the world. FIRST Robotics teams help students explore these fields through designing, building, programming, and competing with robots. Our goal is for students to develop the technical and professional skills that will be valuable for careers in STEM or any other field they may choose.
Our goal is to help you find something you love to do. Rockford Robotics has the resources to help each student learn about what they love.

The Mentors

Jeff W
He helps lead the team using his previous experiences from a variety of places, such as being a mentor to team 3352, as a Database Administrator, and helping with his kids' football team when they were little. He is outgoing and cheerful and always knows how to lighten the mood. Most of all, he is flexible with teaching styles but strict about safety.

He enjoys machining metal. He makes sure that the students machine the metal in a safe manner. He served in the Navy.

Jake's favorite parts about being a mentor are that it is fun working with the students to solve interesting challenges and teaching them the engineering process. His favorite parts about robotics and competitions are finding strategies for each set of game challenges, prototyping, CAD, machining, testing stuff, troubleshooting, and watching matches. He also enjoys 3D printing, video game, and rockets.

He helps supervise students using power tools. He also helps with programming. He is a retired Software Engineer for Ingersoll Machine Tools.

He is a mentor to multiple teams, both inside and outside of his job as a Woodward employee, including mentoring Lego League team 32323, various Woodward teams, and FRC team 2039. He helps students construct the robot, and he enjoys using puns frequently.

Chris
She enjoys being a mentor because she loves working with really smart and creative students. Chris is in charge of budgeting and organizing for the team. Her favorite part of competitions is seeing all of the creating ways teams solve the same challenge.

She often checks on people and is always supportive. She is always proactive and helps with timekeeping. She wants to make a difference and helps with volunteer letters.

Like a termite infestation you don't always notice he's there, but his effects can definitely be felt. Setting up and maintaining donated equipment, creating and maintaining workspaces throughout the shop, and acquiring supplies as he's made aware of team needs. When you do notice him, he can be seen helping students on various tasks such as the website, CAD, Build, and ensuring that students are not over stimulated. It is his hope that by taking care of the small things, it allows the students to focus on learning and building life skills.
